How coupons work!

If you have ever used coupons at the grocery store, then you know the routine. You cut coupons out of newspapers and magazines, take them to the store and use them to get discounts on certain products. A coupon is the same as cash. For example, if you have a $1.00 off coupon on a box of cereal, the cashier takes the coupon as though it were cash. It's not that common any more, but some stores will even double a coupon's face value.
Once the cashier accepts the coupon, the store has a problem. It now has a small scrap of paper that is worth cash, but in order to get the cash the store has to mail the coupon to the manufacturer. On the back of most coupons in fine print, the manufacturer lists the mailing address and states that it will also reimburse the store some amount of money for processing -- typically 8 cents per coupon. Redeeming a coupon would not be that bad if there were only a few of them, but major grocery chains collect millions of them. At that scale it becomes a major headache! The whole process seems hopelessly antiquated, but coupons remain enormously popular and that is why they continue. A coupon is, essentially, free money, and free money is hard to stop...

Publix Coupons and newspaper coupons

I picked up a book with several pages of coupons at Publix the other day. Did you know that if you look on the customer service counter and sometimes sprinkled throughout the store, you can find Publix coupons? You can actually use those coupons in combination with the printable coupons here, to save more money.

I also bought two of my local papers Sunday. I spent about $3.00, but since they have some of the same, but some different coupons, I will save about $50.00, or more if I combine. So, to get the most coupons possible this week, grab the freebies at Publix, print the new ones here, and buy two news papers. Then, if you are feeling really ambitious, you can actually go directly to the manufacturer's websites of foods that you buy regularly. Often you  will find there are coupons there as well. Don't try to rely on big coupon websites because they don't update and half of what you find there will be outdated.

Here's a site where you can print coupons for organic Apple and Eve Juices.

fill in your name and email and they will immediately give you two coupons. I gave them my info and they haven't bothered me at all, so you don't have to worry about them spamming you.

The Publix that you don't know ;-)

Here's what I found out about Publix couponing. Last week, I went into my local Publix with my coupons. I had a few coupons that I had clipped from food packages, and the coupons that I had printed. I printed the same coupons a few times. I didn't know until recently that I could do that. You can do it too. You can actually print these coupons a few times before you reach your limit. That's how you really save cash.
So here's how it went down. I found out that I could use coupons on the buy one get one free items. Publix offers a bunch of buy one get one items that change over every Wednesday. The secret is that you can actually use two coupons that those items! That's how I bought 4 large bags of Chex Mix and paid less than $2.00. Then the cashier was kind enough to share with me that while Publix no longer doubles coupons, they do combine coupons. Here's an example: Betty Crocker Cheesy Potatoes were $1.90 each. There was a store coupon on the box for $1.00 off a box, and I printed a free coupon from the list below for .75 cents off a box of the same potatoes. I had 3 coupons, so I paid 15cents a piece for the potatoes!

Couponing is a rush and it doesn't have to be complicated. There are just a few tricks to know and off you go. Email me if you have questions. jubbyscloset@gmail.com
